welcome to g8s!
g8s! (pronounced gates) is a fast paced, high score, arcade game inspired by the pacifism game mode in geometry wars.
how to play?
the aim of the game is to earn a high score, as simple as that! you can also track your progress by earning levels over time.
how do I earn points?
destroying enemies will cause them to drop gems, collect the gems to increase your score.
the more enemies you destroy at once, the more gems they will drop.
how do I destroy enemies?
there is no way in g8s! to directly attack an enemy, instead you must fly through one of the gates and nearby enemies will be destroyed.
warning! hitting the edge of a gate will cause you to lose!
tips and tricks!
- try taking it slow
- moving too fast can cause you to lose control and fly into an enemy or edge of a gate
- pause at a gate and wait for more enemies to come near
- destroying more enemies in a single gate will increase you gem counts
- don't forget to pick up the gems!
options
check out the options page in game to:
- adjust music volume
- adjust sfx volume
- switch between a few different colour palettes
- each palette is lovingly curated and only 4 colours!
- delete your save (del save)
- this will reset your high score and current level

this game was created with love by cody ward
it sticks to a 64 x 64 resolution for the lowrezjam2024!
all assets, music and sfx were created by myself in 2 weeks for the game jam.
thanks to my wife, 8 month old daughter, and cat for being the greatest play testers a dev could ask for.

Sick! Really fun, simple, and unique. Simple and unique is a hard combo to find in game design haha. Fantastic music and sfx as well!
Very rewarding with the constant progress~
I’ve played until I reached level11, with my highscore being 0071825. (don’t know if that’s any good)
Overall very fun and engaging. Would like to play a version with different types of enemies and obstacles.
Edit: Oh, and the music is such a banger!
Really fun game!! And INCREDIBLY cool concept. The acceleration on the player feels nice. My only gripe is that the shadows, enemies, particles, and scoreboard are all the same color, making it very difficult to know what is safe and not safe. Using a 4th color for “not-an-enemy” objects would really help here <3
AMAZING work on this, I’m definitely coming back to practice and set high scores!
The way the palette should work is that the shadows/score/particles are one color, the background is another, enemies are a third, and the player and gems are a 4th.
But the colors I chose for the shadows and the enemies might be lacking contrast making them hard to see.
One thing I wish I had spent more time on was making things less visually noisy while still keeping the chaotic feel.

The game seems like it would be a ton of fun but It seems the speed is based on framerate and since I have a high end pc it is running SUPER FAST also I cant retry after dying I've tried all the button and clicking everywhere. Would love to come back and try it out if you could fix this!
Thanks for giving it a try, I’ve updated the game to cap at 60 FPS (not really a proper fix, but it should resolve the issues hopefully!)
